Victoria B.

My fiancé and I got engaged on New Year's Eve 2008. He made plans for us to go to an expensive restaurant - the most expensive place we've gone to in the two and a half years that we've been together. Towards the end of the night I felt like something was up and that he would propose at the restaurant because it's usual for us to go to a place like that and his friends had been texting him all night. He paid the bill and we left; there was no engagement.

In the car I asked almost tearfully, "Do you think we'll ever get engaged?" He looked at me surprisingly and said, "Yes, of course we will one day." I asked this because I felt like we talked about it, but he never seemed like it was what he wanted. When we got home, we watched a movie and just relaxed on the sofa, practically falling asleep. He faked a stomach ache so that he could leave the room. In less than 5 minutes he came back to a passed out girlfriend. He woke me up and looking serious, he grabbed my hand and led me into the bedroom.

When I got in there, I noticed there were four posters up on the wall. One saying "2009: The Year of you and I" Another saying, "Please be mine forever." A third saying, "I love you so much it hurts," and the fourth saying, "I want to spend the rest of my life with you." I also noticed a bunch of roses and flowers on the bed and candles along the dresser. The candles weren't lit because he said he was so nervous his hand was shaking and he couldn't stay steady enough to light them. When I looked over at him he was crying and then he got down on one knee and opened the ring box. It was so sweet and straight from his heart. He hid this from me very well for over a month and even had a few people in on the surprise.
