My boyfriend, Bob, took me to a very nice restaurant for Valentine's Day. While we were eating, he said to me, "I can't believe they don't have flowers on the tables for Valentine's." I told him not every place does stuff like that, and he said that he was going ask the waiter to bring a flower for our table. I laughed and said, "No you're not." He said, "Yes I am!" I thought he was just being silly, but I also know him enough to think he probably would ask.
Well, sure enough the waiter came by and he stopped him and said, "Can we please get some flowers for her here on the table?" I just covered my face and thought, "Oh my word, he did ask!" The waiter said, "Sure no problem." Bob looked at me and said that I needed a flower to take home. I told him they wouldn't let me take it with me. He said we would just take it. I laughed.
Next thing I knew the waiter came over and laid down a bunch of very long-stemmed flowers. They were birds of paradise, a very exotic flower, and some other kind of exotic flower. Then another waiter came with another bunch of different kinds of exotic flowers, and yet another waiter came with another bunch of different exotic flowers. Each bunch was wrapped in its own pretty satin ribbon that was purple, which is my favorite color. I said, "WOW! These are so pretty!"
By this time, Bob was standing up beside me. He said, "I wanted them to be special, because I want you to be my wife." Then he dropped to his knee and said, "Will you marry me?" All of the people in the restaurant gasped, and then complete silence fell while they waited for my answer.
I said, "YES!" and the whole crowd shouted and applauded. I jumped to my feet and he planted a big kiss on my lips. He told me afterward that he had this night planned with the restaurant for two months, and that when he had left earlier that day he was actually picking out the flowers and he dropping them off at the restaurant. He stayed so calm during the whole day that I never suspected a thing. I feel like the luckiest woman alive!
