I had a true military engagement. Jack is a Marine stationed in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. It was Christmas, and Jack was home on his Christmas leave. We were at a mutual friend's house when we met, and it was truly love at first sight. After meeting, Jack made the ten hour trip almost every weekend to Pennsylvania just to see me. He would leave Friday after formation, drive ten hours to Pennsylvania, get their around 2 am, and drive home Sunday afternoon. This continued for months, and that June we were engaged.
It was during one of his many weekend trips. We were dancing in the street under the street lights and the stars when he spun me around, and when I turned back to him, he was on his knee. Of course, I said, "Yes!" Three months later, he left for a first seven month deployment to Iraq. If there is one thing that can make a relationship strong, that was it. Two days after his homecoming we got married in a small Justice of the piece ceremony.
He was deployed to Iraq again a year later for an additional seven months, bringing us to today. We are currently planning a big wedding so that we could celebrate our marriage the way we had originally wanted. It is nearly impossible to plan anything in the military, so we finally have the opportunity to get married this June, after he is honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps. We can't wait!
