Jeremiah and I met one fateful morning during the summer of 2006. I began a summer internship at a job where Jeremiah worked full-time. Accidentally, I left my cell phone in my purse next to his desk. The loudness of my ringtone made an ever-so-important first impression.
What happened next, though, wasn't just Jer handing me my bag. It was the kind of firework show that many people spend a lifetime looking for. After our first date at Nan's over sushi, a couple weekend nights out together and a crazy trip to Kansas City to meet my family, we were inseparable. It didn't matter what was going on - sporting events, family get-togethers, weddings, lazy Sundays - Jer and I were side-by-side and head-over-heels, falling in love with each other.
Finally, on May 2nd of 2008, Jer picked me up from work and surprised me with a wine and cheese picnic. We sipped their favorite wine, ate our favorite cheeses and discussed our favorite memories with each other. It's important to note that, although teary-eyed and happy, I still had no idea what was about to happen.
After a romantic walk beside the lake and a return to our picnic spot, Jer got down on one knee and asked, "Remember when we came down to our spot and I asked you to be my lover and best friend forever? Will you marry me?" We hugged, smiled and cried together, but most importantly, I said, "yes!" Jer finally got to slip the ring onto my finger. What couldn't have been more than a minute and a half later, the skies opened up and a beautiful rain began to fall. Instead of running for shelter, we just stayed there for awhile. It was perfect.
