My fiancé Nick is a midshipman at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. I was down in Annapolis for the day to visit him, and he was planning on taking me out for dinner later that evening. It was still a little early to go out for dinner, so Nick suggested that we take a walk around the edge of the Academy along the river. Just around sunset, we reached a spot on the yard with three stone benches with the core values of the Navy (Honor, Courage, Commitment) written on them.
As we approached this spot, Nick told me that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me because I was the most important person in his world. I gave him a hug, and he lifted me by the waist and set me on my feet in front of the bench that read "Commitment. " He got down on one knee, pulled out a ring and asked me to marry him. I said yes and practically tackled him, knocking his cover to the ground. I didn't even get a good look at the ring until he put it on my finger! We plan to get married after he graduates from the Naval Academy in 2011.
