My fiancé, Paul, is in the United States Navy. I live in Florida, and he is currently stationed in Great Lakes, Illinois. He is training to become a Navy SEAL. He had left for boot camp on Sept 23rd, 2008, and it had been months that we hadn't seen each other. He was lucky enough to get his leave approved for Christmas. So he arrived home on Dec 19, 2008, and it was such a perfect time. On Christmas Eve he asked me to go to the store for him, which was odd because he is such a gentleman that he always goes with me if I go anywhere at night, just to make sure that I am safe. But I went to the store for him; at that time he told my father that he had to get his permission to give me my Christmas present. He then asked my dad if he could have my hand in marriage. Of course my father approved.
While Paul and I were on our nightly walk looking at Christmas lights, he kept asking me if it was midnight yet. When it was finally midnight, we had ended up at the most beautiful house in our neighborhood. At that time he looked at me and said, "Merry Christmas. You know that I love you more than anything, you are my world, my everything, I would do anything for you, you are the most beautiful and perfect woman in the world and I will love you forever." At that time, he got down on one knee and then our song, "She's Everything," by Brad Paisley began to play. He then pulled out the most beautiful ring and said to me, "My beautiful baby, Maria, nothing would make me more proud and more happy than if you would do me the honor and be my wife." The tears in my eyes began to stream down my face. I didn't see a ring in the box, all I saw was his heart. Of course I said, "Yes!"
He put the ring on my finger and took me by the hand and danced with me in front of this beautiful decorated house that was playing our song as we danced. As he held me close to him, he whispered in my ear, "This is the most perfect moment in my life and I love you with all my heart. Oh, by the way, I asked the gentleman that owned the house if this Sailor could ask him to play this song for him as he asked his soul mate to be his wife." Obviously the gentleman that had been married for fifty years was honored.
When the song was over, the elderly couple came outside to meet me and hugged us both with tears in their eyes and wished us the best of luck in our life as husband and wife! It was the most beautiful and perfect moment in my life. You see, Paul isn't just some ordinary man; he is my soul mate, my dream come true and the man that saved me.
I have two children that he loves with all his heart, and come to find out a few days later that he had also asked the permission to ask me from my two children. He made the months and days of being apart and not being able to talk, worth the wait, for he was in my arms and he was now my future husband and I couldn't be luckier! He made that moment perfect and what made it even more special was that he didn't even know the gentleman; he wore his uniform and went to this man's door with his story of true love! He is my prince charming and I thank God for him every day.
