Mandy S.

Brett, my fiancé, and I decided to exchange our gifts this Christmas the Thursday before the holiday, since we were going back home for the week before and didn't want to take everything with us. I made a nice Christmas dinner, and then we exchanged gifts. We went back and forth opening gifts in no particular order, and finally it was my turn to open my last gift.

I picked it up, and I discovered it was rather heavy. I unwrapped it to find a jewelry box that Brett had made. It was beautiful - very contemporary in style, with alternating colors that were just gorgeous. I gave him a big hug and kiss, but he gave me a weird look. I asked him what was wrong, and he asked me why I hadn't looked in the box.

I opened the jewelry box, and glanced down at the cover. I realized that there was a mirror on the inside of the cover, and as I was looking back at him, it hit me that there was writing on the mirror. I looked back down, and on the mirror was written, "Will you marry me?"

I was stunned. I looked at him, and my eyes started watering. He was crying too. Finally, what seemed like five minutes later, he asked me if I was going to say anything. I looked at him and said, "Yeah." Then, he asked if I had seen the ring. Up until that point, I didn't even think about the ring. I looked down, and there it was sparkling up at me. It was the perfect diamond ring! I just sat there for a little longer, not able to even talk. I finally looked at him and asked him if I could put it on. He laughed through his own tears, and said yes. It was the best Christmas ever!
