This past Christmas was the first Christmas I had ever spent without my grandmother. We were very close and I had missed her very much. On every Christmas Eve, we would go to church, and there was a special part of the ceremony where the lights were turned out and everyone would light a candle and sing "Silent Night " without any music. Well, during the ceremony that Christmas, I was getting upset about my grandmother, and I started to cry. My boyfriend then took my hand and slipped the promise ring off of my finger. He always jokes about taking it so I looked at him, sort of mad that he was teasing me while I was crying about my grandmother, and whispered, "Give me back my ring. " He put a ring back on my finger, but it wasn't my promise ring. I didn't even notice that it was a different ring! He raised my hand so I could look at it, and that's when I realized that it was an engagement ring. When he asked me to marry him, I started crying even harder and then said yes. I cried both when I was sad and when I was very happy. I think I cried more this past Christmas than any other one I've had!
