On Friday, December 19th, after returning from a two month trip in South America, doing volunteer work and all sorts of travel, Anthony and I met with almost twenty of our friends to have a "white elephant" Christmas dinner party.
We spent the whole day on Friday out and about in San Francisco, but he managed to drop off the ring to his best friend to bring to the dinner party so that I wouldn't be suspicious of extra gifts he would be bringing later on that night. He coordinated this game with our friend who helped plan the whole proposal so that I would end up picking the last gift from the pile. All of our friends were aware of the proposal so they knew what gift NOT to pick during the white elephant game. As it was my turn to go, I had asked everyone to raise all of their gifts to consider stealing theirs rather than opening the last gift. Yes, I was that oblivious of the whole situation.
I opted to open the last gift which the ring was wrapped within multiple boxes decreasing in size. I finally opened the last box and saw a wooden box (he replaced the actual ring box to throw me off even more) and as I opened it up and saw the ring I saw him down on one knee proposing to me. Of course I said yes!
I guess while I was gone on my two month trip without him, he realized how much he wanted to keep me in his life! All of our friends had their cameras out and took pictures and videotaped the whole thing.
