Zak and I drove from Connecticut to Wisconsin for his family's vacation last summer. When we arrived at our beachfront condo on Lake Michigan, all I wanted to do was take a nap. After all, we had driven for nearly 17 hours. We showered and met his family for a BBQ dinner. The lake was so beautiful, and the sun was beginning to set, so I said, "Let's go for a walk on the beach." It was a bit breezy, so Zak went back to our condo to grab my sweater. We walked on the beach for about five minutes before Zak said, "Linz, can I ask you something?" I thought, "Oh great..." because the usual questions pertain to buying something expensive. He knelt down in the sand and simply asked, "Will you marry me?" I lost my mind because I thought he was joking! He opened this little black box with a three-stone engagement ring. I grabbed it out of his hand, put the ring on, and then we hugged and kissed. I forgot to say yes! He asked again, and of course I answered him this time. I will never forget the way the breeze was blowing, and the look in his eyes during the proposal. We ran down the beach yelling, "We're getting married!" We went back to his mother's condo and told everyone the good news. We celebrated with a champagne toast, lots of tears and presents. I can't wait to start our life together!
