Tom and I had talked about getting married, but we had never mentioned what kind of ring I would like or what size I wear. He is a total manly man and I knew he had no clue where to begin when looking for a ring. One night we were planning to meet for dinner (we live 2 hours apart). A really bad storm was coming and Tom, being the gentleman that he is, decided to drive the full 2 hours to see me. Once he got to my apartment I was so happy to see him, but I could tell something was wrong. I could have never guessed what was about to happen!
We sat talking for a while and he said he was acting bummed because he had forgotten my main present at home. I was ok with that, but he did remember to bring part of the present. He gave me a real Alligator foot back scratcher! I was totally warded out, but tried to force a smile. If you knew Tom and his since of humor, this was not out of the ordinary, but not my dream birthday present. He genuinely acted as if it hurt his feelings that I didn't like the present. Needless to say he had gotten me something much better!
As we were talking he was sitting on the floor on his knees and he immediately pulled out the ring and asked me to marry him. It was the biggest surprise ever and I was in shock! He is such an amazing guy, and I loved the fact that he had picked out the perfect, gorgeous ring all by himself! He said he wanted to do something more romantic, but couldn't keep the ring in his pocket any longer. This was perfect for me because it was intimate, incorporated his sense of humor that I love, and was a 100% surprise!
