At the time, my boyfriend and I had been dating for six years. Travis and I were serious, but he never really seemed as if he cared to get married right then. I had dropped the occasional hint, but he acted as if he wanted nothing to do with it. So, June came around and Travis traveled out of town for a golf tournament. The day that he got back from his trip we decided to go for a nice drive into the mountains.
So, we drove and we drove and we drove. After driving for a few hours, I suggest that we turn back. He instead said that we stop off ahead at a lake. I figured why not, and we pulled over and hiked up a trail to a rock that overlooks the lake.
He wasn't talking much as we were walking, so I didn't really know what he was thinking. We got to the rock and listened to the silence for a minute. Then, I started to try to skip rocks off the water. I began looking around for rocks to skip off the water, when Travis said, "How about this rock?" I turned around and he was standing there holding a ring box. He asked, "Will you marry me?" Of course, I said, "Yes!" Come to find out while he was away on his trip, he had gone to my parents house and asked my dad for my hand. He tells me now that he had been planning this for a year! He couldn't believe that I didn't have a clue!
