Kelly L.

Jerry and I had been together for a little over a year. We had already been through a lot and had been talking about getting married off and on for a little while. I was on my way home from work one night, and I just felt like it was the right time to ask! I bought a Reese's Cup from the snack place in Union Station in Chicago, and on the train ride home, I wrote a poem about how Jerry had changed my life, how much I cared for him, and how much I always wanted him to be my life partner. It ended with the lines, "Please say yes, and remember, don't worry when I ask you to marry me this September." When I got home, I told Jerry to sit on the couch and close his eyes. He asked me if I was going to do something crazy, and I replied, "Absolutely!" I cut a hole in the Reese's Cup and made a "diamond" on top with a poof of whipped cream. I sat down in front of him, put the Reese's ring on his finger, and read my poem to him. He knew where it was going and was laughing and smiling as I read it. When I finished, he put his hand on my cheek and said, "How can I say no to such a pretty face?" We've since told our families and they're all thrilled. We're thrilled, excited and nervous. I wish September were here already! I'm so proud and happy that Jerry will be my husband and I his wife, and that we'll be partners for a lifetime.
