Carey and I had been together for almost six years when we got engaged last June. His proposal couldn't have been more perfect for the six years we've shared. My 25th birthday was on June 30, 2008, and I had no idea that this would be my best birthday ever! We had a great day together, including dinner and a movie. As the evening was winding down, Carey asked if there was anything else I wanted to do. I said we should go out into our 18 acres and look at the stars, and he agreed. It was around 11:15 pm, and we were lying in the bed of the truck, just talking about the day. Carey asked me if I enjoyed my birthday, and I told him that it was a really fun day. He said that he was glad because he really wanted to make me happy.
As he was holding my hand, he told me that it looked funny, like something was missing. It was so dark out there that I had no idea what he was talking about. Then he said, "Don't you see it? Don't you see what's missing? " As I said no, he pulled the ring out and said, "I think it's this. " I burst into tears, and he said through his tears, "Will you marry me? " My reply was, "Are you serious? Yes! " We sat up, and he put the ring on my finger, took my hands and said, "I want to tell you something. I love you so much. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, have children with you and grow old with you. You know that I am a confident guy and not a lot makes me nervous, but I have been so nervous all day! " We both laughed and cried some more and called our families immediately! It really was the best moment ever.
