Over Labor Day Weekend in 2008, my fiancé, Eric, and I traveled to Laguna Beach to stay with our good friends who live there. We had previously been to Laguna for their wedding at the Surf and Sand Hotel several years prior. The Surf and Sand is an absolutely gorgeous hotel set right on the beach. I had asked Eric if we could stay there one night while we were in town. I was surprised and excited to hear Eric tell me that we would be staying there on our last night in Laguna!

The first few days in Laguna were fantastic. We got to spend some quality time with our friends, surf, enjoy the local restaurants and markets, shop and much more! Nothing, however, would compare to Sunday night.

Before leaving our friends to go to the Surf and Sand, Eric had mentioned that he had made a dinner reservation for us. He usually doesn't plan things like this ahead, so I thought it was very sweet and romantic that he had thought of it in advance. Other than that, I didn't make much of it.

Upon getting out of our taxi, we walked through a series of beautifully landscaped paths to a restaurant called the Studio. Being from Chicago, we have had the opportunity to dine at some fabulous restaurants, but nothing compares to Studio. The restaurant is housed in what looks like a beautiful cottage, perched on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. We were lucky enough to have one of the sweetheart tables on the patio outside.

Our dining experience was, by far, one of the best we have ever had; we had impeccable service, a great wine list, delicious food, and a view that trumps any I'd ever seen. Nothing, however, prepared me for the surprise of a lifetime. As we neared the end of our meal, I started getting full. Eric suggested we get up for a few minutes to take a walk. So, we did.

We strolled down a path that led us down to the beach. As we were standing there, in each other's arms, admiring the view and chatting away, Eric told me that he had something to ask me. I remember him getting down on one knee and popping the question. I was in such shock that I really do not remember all of the details after that, other than that I said yes! We walked back up to our table after basking in the moment for a bit. Desert and champagne were waiting. Our friends met us shortly thereafter to celebrate. I couldn't have asked for anything more in a proposal or fiancé. I am very much looking forward to our future.
