In the months leading up to the proposal, my now-fiancé Scott and his brother were starting a business from scratch, so I accepted the fact that we wouldn't be making any big changes for a while. Though many of our friends were asking when he was planning on popping the question, I assured them that it wouldn't be anytime soon and that we were both happy just knowing that we wanted to spend our lives together.
Sneaky Scott, however, had been saving up for months and was working with my supervisor at work, Jordan, to plan a proposal that would be the biggest surprise of my life. Scott isn't the type to plan weekends away or romantic nights out, so he wanted to find a way to propose that would totally catch me off guard. Jordan emailed out to the team one morning that our boss wanted to meet with everyone before lunch. Everyone was running around all morning trying to figure out what this big meeting was about. I actually thought she might be letting us go home early since it was a Friday, but I basically just shrugged it off.
Jordan then strategically kept me in my office to keep me distracted while Scott set up for the "after-party " in the conference room. Sure enough, right before lunch, we heard the infamous bell ring in the lobby, alarming us that it was time for our boss' big news. We all came running out and our boss started saying how it was a very special day because we had a guest in the office. That's when I saw Scott come out with a bouquet of flowers, and I was completely confused. I honestly thought for a second that it might be our anniversary and that I'd forgotten it!
Scott came up to me and told me that he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. Then, he got down on one knee and asked if I wanted to marry him right there in front of everyone in the office, including my best friends and tearful boss. I know it had to be tough for him since he is incredibly shy! The rest is very blurry but I know that I said yes and remained in a state of shock for the rest of the weekend.
After I said yes and Scott put the beautiful ring on my finger (which he impressively picked out without us even having looked at rings before), we walked into the conference room for a champagne toast and cupcakes from my favorite local bakery. My boss was nice enough to let me have the rest of the day off, so I immediately called my parents, and we spent the afternoon with some of our family members. It couldn't have been any more perfect or surprising, and I have been on cloud nine ever since! I am so glad that my friends and coworkers were able to be a part of this special moment and were there to capture my reaction on camera! I later learned that he had specifically asked to ring the bell in the lobby because my new last name would be "Bell. " That was just icing on the cupcake.
