I took my boyfriend, Dustin, to my hometown for Christmas to surprise my sister for her birthday, and to be home for Christmas for the first time in eight years! I live in Washington State, and my hometown is in South Dakota, so it makes it hard to go back for the holidays. Anyways, what I didn't know was that he had been planning on proposing while we were there, but had to ask my dad's permission first.
Christmas Day rolled around, and after everyone opened their presents, he came over to me and gave me a red jewelry box and said, "Before you open this, I want you to know that I love you very much and that I would do anything for you." I joked, "This better be a key to a Vespa." He responded, "Well, it's a key to something." I opened it and was speechless, because there, lying on top of a cotton square, was a vintage diamond platinum ring!
He got down on one knee and said, "Karen, will you marry me?" I was shocked and kept looking at it and looking around the room to see my family staring at me! At first, I thought it was a joke, but was then reassured that it was no joke. I said, "I don't know what to say!" And he said, "Well, you better say something, otherwise it'll be a long plane ride home!" I laughed and said, "Yes." We hugged and kissed, and had the most wonderful Christmas I could have ever asked for. I have the key to his heart and I love him very much!
