Each year for the past four years, my fiancé and I have spent our summer vacation at the family cottages in Maine. My fiancée has been going there with her family for her whole life. Ever since we met, she has called Maine her favorite place in the world. When she brought me there for the first time, I realized why she loved Maine so much. Because I was new to Maine, we decided to start new traditions of our own. One of these was going to see the sunrise and sunset on Cadillac Mountain, an absolutely beautiful location.
After four years of being together, I finally worked up the courage to buy a ring. All I had left was to plan where and when. I could think of no other place than Maine and no better time than sunset on Cadillac Mountain. I kept my plans a secret for almost a whole year before it was finally time to go to Maine. I figured I would need help, so I invited two of our closest friends to come to Maine with us. Little did my fiancé know, my friends were in on the plan from the beginning!
The day of the proposal came, and I was very nervous. I had my friends chill a bottle of champagne in a cooler as we drove to Cadillac Mountain for sunset. When we got to the mountain, I picked a couple of huge rocks to sit on as we watched the sunset together. When she got up to move around, I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. She said yes faster than I could blink, and I placed the ring on her finger. Our friends took pictures of us celebrating our engagement with champagne at sunset on Cadillac Mountain.
