Jodie D.

My fiancé, Paul, and I met at work in 2007. The first twenty minutes into our first date, I knew he was the one. After six months of dating, we took a trip to Negril, Jamaica. On the way back, going through customs, a US customs agent asked us if we were married. I laughed and said no, and he asked Paul, "Why not?" Paul responded with a smile, "Maybe someday." After we were through customs, I teased him for months about his "maybe someday" response to the agent. He said, "Of course, I'm going to marry you someday."

Four months later we purchased our first home together. We were particularly excited about our new master bath and Jacuzzi tub. We decided to celebrate our first New Year's Eve in our new home together, with a nice home cooked meal, candles and a Jacuzzi bath. Paul filled the bathroom with candles and soft music; we locked our very nosy cat out of the room for some peace and quiet. For our cat, Pootie, this was too much to miss. He clawed and cried at the door until Paul got out and let him in. "Why did you let him in here?" I asked Paul. Unbeknownst to me, he used the distraction to get the ring he had hidden in our bathroom vanity.

Meanwhile, Pootie was trying to get into the tub with us. Paul reached into the vanity and pulled something out and hid it underwater. I asked him, "Are you going to through something at Pootie? What do you have?" He held my hand and told me he'd like to make "someday" sooner than later, and he asked me to marry him! I was thrilled and shocked! I never thought I'd be proposed to in my own Jacuzzi bath tub!
