My proposal was by far the most romantic day of my life. On November 24th, I woke up late for work and was frantically get ready. Amidst this rush, my boyfriend, Matt, told me that I did not have to go. I asked, "What do you mean I don't have to go?" He responded, "I took care of it, you're off." It was our one year anniversary and he planned for us to spend the day together.
We drove to the train station and he said he had three surprises for me. Our first stop was Grand Central Station; we ate lunch at Michael Jordan's Steak Restaurant. Then we walked to Rockefeller Center where we went ice skating. While we were ice skating, I started saying how bad my feet were hurting and wouldn't mind going back to the locker room to get my skates off. But, Matt really wanted me to stay just for a few more minutes. He said lets go around 5 more times. I made a deal with him I told him to go around three times, and then I would go the other two.
By the end of the five times around the rink, the skating session had come to an end. As everyone was exiting the ice, Matt said let's go one more time. So I decided to give it a go one more time; as we were halfway around the rink, music started playing again. A familiar song, "Taking Chances" by Celine Dion began to play. This was the song that I played for him when I wanted him to go out with me.
I looked at him and asked, "How did you do this?" He said, "I did it for you," and pulled me to the middle of the rink. There were hundreds of people watching from the sides. He got down on one knee and proposed. After he placed the ring on my finger, a staff member brought me out the most gorgeous bouquet of white tulips. I found out later that these flowers were not in season and were flown in from Holland; he did this all because they were my favorite flowers.
After we went inside and returned our skates, we were taken into the lounge area where we had a private table waiting with champagne and strawberries. Then, we left to head back towards the train station. On our way, we passed a Build-A-Bear store and decided to make a bear to remember the day. The bear was white, with "I Love NY" printed all over his body. We bought a pair of black ice skates for his feet. We even placed the box that my ring came in inside the bear before it was stuffed. We named him Rocky. It truly was the most memorable day of my life.
