Crispin and I met in graduate school in May when studying to become physician assistants. We dated throughout school and graduated in August. Upon graduation, we were unable to find jobs in the same city, so we took jobs in cities that were four hours apart. We continued to date long distance and visited as often as our work schedules would allow.
The weekend before my birthday in April, I made a trip to visit Crispin, and he said he had a surprise for me. We got in the car and started driving, but he would not tell me where we were going. We started driving in a direction I wasn't familiar with and ended up at the Irving-House Vineyard, a local winery. He surprised me with a tour of the winery and then a wine tasting. It was such a beautiful day that we decided to purchase a bottle of the wine and sit out by the vineyard to enjoy the afternoon.
While we were enjoying the beautiful vineyard and gorgeous oak trees, Crispin got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. Of course I said yes! Little did I know that the celebration was not yet over. Crispin arranged for a romantic dinner at my favorite restaurant. After dinner, we were joined by my brother, his girlfriend and my mom (who was visiting from Chicago) for some champagne. To finish off the evening, we went to a local rooftop bar where we were greeted by all of our friends. It was the perfect end to an amazing day!
