I had gone home on a Thursday to celebrate my the 16th birthday of my brother, Jonathan. That Saturday, I rode with my family to watch Appalachian State University play Presbyterian in a football game. My boyfriend, Ryan, had just graduated from Appalachian, and I was beginning my senior year. This was strictly a family weekend since we were celebrating Jonathan's birthday. On our way to tailgate, I was told to pull into Chancellor Peacock's front driveway, instead of going to our usual spot. I didn't know what to expect.
I came to find out that Ryan had gotten permission from the chancellor to tailgate in his front yard! Ryan told me it was for Jonathan's birthday, so I didn't think any differently. It was the perfect tailgate because both of our entire families were there, as were many friends! After about three hours of tailgating, Chancellor Peacock came out of his house, very casually, with three national championship trophies. He began taking pictures with everyone. After I walked over to say hello to the chancellor, he pulled out the three championship rings and reminded me that at the last tailgate I was unable to try them on.
The chancellor offered me the chance to try them on, so of course I did! I was so happy and still had no clue what was happening. Since I was consumed with talking to the chancellor of my university, I never even realized that while we were talking, all of our family and friends made a circle around the chancellor, Ryan and I. The chancellor told me that the football team was going for four this year, and reminded me that if we won we would need another championship ring.
He asked me if I wanted a preview of the fourth ring. Of course I said, "Yes!" Then, Chancellor Peacock said, "Well, I think I will need some help with that." That is when Ryan went down on one knee and asked, "Will you marry me?"
I had no idea what to think! I was smiling from ear to ear, and even did a little screaming dance! After I said yes, everyone there started crying and clapping! It was the most perfect, unique and well thought-out proposal ever. I am so thankful that all of our family, friends and the chancellor had such a special part in such a memorable day.
