Felipe proposed to me on the day before Christmas, but it started weeks before that. Felipe had found the perfect ring for me and decided that it would be best to speak with my father and ask for my hand. My father is not an easy man, so he gave Felipe the run around and made him play phone tag for weeks before finally meeting him for lunch and giving his permission.
He then moved to his next obstacle. Felipe went to my daughters and asked them if he could have permission to marry their mother and be part of our family forever. They, of course, agreed and decided to plot with him on how to ask me.
He put the ring in a large box that was full of bricks. On top of the ring were piles of tissue paper of three different colors. He hid the present, and I opened last. I was so shocked that everyone was in on it. It was the most exquisite, romantic and selfless thing that I have ever seen a man do.
