One Monday in January, my fiancé Tommy texted me to say that he would have dinner ready for me when I got home. Tommy had been on vacation for an entire week before he started his new job in Long Beach, so I didn't think anything of it. When I got home, Tommy opened the door for me, all dressed up in a dress shirt and slacks. I thought he was doing something romantic for me because it was his last week with me in San Diego before he started his new job. He greeted me with a kiss and a long stemmed red rose, telling me, "Welcome to the love café! "
As I looked up the stairs, I saw a long stemmed red rose on each of the steps with lit candles leading up to the house. When I finally got to the top of the stairs, there was music playing and rose petals leading into the dining room, where there were even more lit candles. The ambiance was absolutely amazing. He then served me dinner. We sat at the dinner table, and he poured us some white grape sparkling cider, and we enjoyed the delicious meal. He then started saying how this year was going to be a good year for us, a year of change.
Then, he asked me when we were going to get married. I said that the best time would be after the condo sold, and we could live together in Long Beach. We discussed the wedding, and then he said, "Well, I should give you this. " It was my first engagement ring! I was so shocked because for two years, I had been under the impression that the ring had been stolen from his condo by one of his friends or guests. He apologized for keeping this secret from me this entire time and said that he had it hidden from me so I wouldn't be able to find it. He said that he had known that he would surprise me one day with it again. But there was a twist. He said that with Obama winning the election, it was a year of change, and he pulled out a beautiful new engagement ring. He then fell down to one knee and proposed. I said yes of course! My future husband put so much thought into making sure everything for this night was perfect. I was absolutely amazed and felt like the luckiest woman in the world to have such an incredible man to be a part of my future.
