My fiancé and I had been living 2,500 miles apart for two years when he proposed. He had hoped to visit me for my birthday, but at the last minute, he delayed his visit by a week. I'm still not clear why the trip was delayed, but I have a feeling it was because the ring wasn't ready! The morning after he finally arrived for a belated birthday weekend at my parents' house, we went about our normal routine. We ate breakfast and showered before getting dressed to do a little shopping. While I was cooking breakfast, my boyfriend disappeared. I found him outside on the phone and assumed he had called work.
Shortly afterward, he asked if I wanted to go for a walk around the woods "loop " behind my family's house before shopping. We held hands, joked and laughed during the walk. At the end of the loop, next to my family's pond, he turned me towards him, got down on one knee, took my hand and started, "All right, Felicity.... " I had been expecting a ring, but the timing was a total surprise! The phone call had been to my parents, who he had expected to see in person that morning, but they had taken a short trip at the last minute. My boyfriend wanted to ask permission but knew my mom would be as giddy as a school girl so he couldn't have asked any earlier. Needless to say, everyone converged at my family's house for a celebratory weekend. We're now planning an outdoor wedding in their yard, complete with tours of the spot where he proposed!
