Falon F.

My now fiancé agreed in early fall that we would take a Saturday or Sunday each month to spend together, just the two of us. He's a photographer, and we were finding that with my crazy schedule during the week and his crazy schedule on the weekends, we weren't spending much time together before 10:30 at night. I really wanted to go apple picking and, as it got later and later in the season, it seemed as though it wasn't going to happen. We finally picked a Saturday afternoon and found an orchard that had an on-site winery and restaurant, so we planned to make a day of it. However, when visiting the orchard website a couple of days before, we found that the pick-your-own-apple season had already ended there. We cancelled our plans there and re-arranged.

It ended up being a beautiful, sunny day and we found an orchard that was having a fall festival. Brent said that when he had called the day prior to make sure the orchard was still open for pick-your-own-apples, he spoke with the owner, who had let him know that they had a large apple tree that they didn't open for picking until the last weekend of the season. We found the woman at the orchard he had spoken with, and she took us out to the middle of a huge field, where there was the biggest apple tree I've ever seen. She gave us a bit of the background, letting us know that the tree was over 100 years old, and then she left us to pick at our leisure.

Brent climbed up into the tree and began to start picking apples. He handed me down one, telling me to be careful. I feared there was some sort of worm coming out of it, but it turned out that he had put the ring around the stem of the apple. He jumped down and asked me if I would marry him. Hands shaking and tears welling up, I said "Yes!"

We made phone calls to parents and friends, and enjoyed what turned out to be a fabulous dinner together. We returned back to our apartment later that night and finished up a few phone calls before he told me that there was just one more thing. We walked out into the back yard of our apartment to a huge projection screen and video projector. While we were gone for the day, he had had a few friends come over to set up the screen in the back yard. We sat under the stars (and many blankets!), and watched the movie that we were watching the first time he ever kissed me. It was truly the perfect end to the perfect day. I couldn't have asked for more!
