The day before my 26th birthday, my boyfriend's grandmother passed away. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to be with him during this time, since he had left our home to be with her last minute. We decided to visit Peru for his grandmother's memorial service, a Peruvian tradition to remember the deceased after one year. I knew this would be an exciting trip since I would be meeting his family. I had asked whether we could visit Machu Picchu, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, but due to our short visit, my boyfriend said no.
After a couple of days visiting his family, he surprised me with a trip to Machu Picchu. He said this would be my birthday surprise because he had originally said that there would be no time to visit Machu Picchu. He had planned a three-day excursion including guided tours, a Bed and Breakfast suite and a two-day itinerary in the ancient city of Cusco. On the third day of our trip, we went to Machu Picchu, and I was very excited to finally see the famous ruin.
After our guide at Machu Picchu explained the history of the wondrous city and the mysteries that accompanied it, my boyfriend asked if we could take a break to enjoy some of the snacks we had brought along. He had said he was very thirsty and hungry. I looked at him, and he seemed to have a mysterious smile. I asked him if he wanted to tell me something, and he replied, "Yes, will you marry me? " At first, I thought he was referring to someday in the future, but then he reached in his pocket and took out a box with a beautiful pink diamond ring inside. I was so shocked that I just could not believe it! After many "wows " and tears, I said yes! And now, our story begins.
