My boyfriend and I were planning to leave on a cruise in two days when he asked me to go to dinner at a fancy Japanese place. The tables were cramped and there was a big party in the backroom that was so loud that we couldn't hear each other. On the way back to my apartment, he asked if I wanted to stop for a drink. I said I was tired, but he persuaded me that we should stop. We popped into a German restaurant near my house, and he swore there was a bar inside. We walked in and there was a 50th anniversary party with a group of people in lederhosen. He whisked me into a booth and ordered. I thought he had ordered a couple of beers, but then champagne glasses came out.
There was live music that night, and a solo accordion player decided to sing Elvis's "I Can't Help Falling in Love with You. " The young waiter walked up with a bottle of champagne. I assumed that we were celebrating that we were about to go on the vacation we had been planning forever. The waiter asked, "What are you celebrating tonight? What is the occasion for the champagne? " My fiancé replied, "I am about to ask her to marry me! " He then got up, walked over to me and got on his knee to say "So? Will you marry me? "
The entire restaurant began screaming before I could even reply. I was so surprised I couldn't even drink the champagne. He had planned to get engaged at home so I could tell my family and friends and then we would sail off on our private celebration cruise to the Western Caribbean. He spoiled me every chance he could on the trip, from massages to endless bottles of champagne. I have never been happier in my life. It was the perfect start to my forever.
