After much quiet planning, my fiancé, Jesse, chose the perfect day to ask me to marry him on July 26, 2009. We had been through a really difficult year after losing my father about five months earlier and it was just the right time. The setting was a late afternoon walk along the shores north of Santa Cruz at a park called Wilder Ranch. You couldn't ask for a more perfect day - it was gorgeous.
Before the walk, Jesse gave me a single red rose and requested that we take the rose with us. As the very practical one, I asked him why we couldn't just leave it in the car. Little did I know that he was on the verge of giving away his intentions when he told me that he wanted to take a picture of me with it. That was true, just not the whole story!
After walking for at least a mile on the trail we came to a path that led down to a beautiful beach with no one else around. I sat down on a rock and Jesse knelt next to me, presenting the rose and asking me for my hand in marriage. This was a welcome surprise. With tears in my eyes, I said yes! Shortly thereafter a young couple walked down on the beach and took a photo of us. We will never forget that day and are looking forward to getting married on July 25, 2009!
