On Martin Luther King Day, my then-boyfriend and I went to a celebration at a local college. We had planned to leave the event early to catch a nice dinner at a local Indian restaurant before they closed. As we headed out of the facility, we were hand-in-hand, laughing and just enjoying each other. All of a sudden, it started snowing for the first time all year! As I soaked in the moment, thinking that the proposal was coming next, he turned in excitement and said, "This would have been a perfect opportunity for me to get down on one knee and propose, babe! " To my amazement and embarrassment, however, he did not propose like I thought he was going to. I was completely humiliated and probably said three words to him for the rest of the night.
The next evening, I had some errands to run and meetings to go to. While I was at my house getting ready to go to the meeting, he just happened to be at his house, praying about whether or not to pop the question that night. It just so happened that right when he got done asking the Lord for a sign, I sent him a text message that said, "You were made for me. " At that moment, he knew exactly what to do!
After my meetings, he tracked me down, and we met up to grab some takeout food and head back to my house. Once he opened the door, I was shocked to see the whole house covered in red roses and candles. I was even more shocked (and speechless) when he got down on one knee and proposed! This time, it was the real thing, and it was simply perfect.
