For a little over a month, I had been planning a surprise birthday party for my boyfriend Anthony. He was turning the big 3-0 so I really wanted him to feel loved and celebrated on his special day. I invited his sisters from out-of-state, a bunch of our friends and some of my family as well. The plan was set! Well, the surprise ended up being on me!
Anthony arrived at the party and went along with things for about two hours, at which point he asked the DJ if he could say a few things. I was standing in the back of the room, ready to take pictures of him. I was thinking, "Wow, he's taking the initiative to thank everyone for coming! " He's not really big on public speaking, so I was very impressed with him and had the camera ready to take pictures of him giving a speech. He started out by thanking everyone for being there and then very quickly turned the attention to me. He said some really sweet things along the lines of: "Chrissy's done a lot for me, and I don't give her the recognition she deserves, so I got her a little gift I'd like her to come open. "
I was very confused and slowly walked to the front of the room. He handed me a box a little smaller than a typical shoe box, but it was very light. I started thinking to myself, "What on earth could be this light that he would want to give me in front of 50 other people? " I started scanning the faces of my family members that were there to see if anyone would give me any kind of idea about what was going on, but there was nothing Then he told me again to open the gift, so I did and inside was a cardboard box. I opened the cardboard box and inside was a little jewelry box. I immediately looked at him, feeling like I was about to fall over if it was what I thought it was. He simply nodded his head, urging me to continue.
I opened the box to see a beautiful diamond ring with a little note saying, "Will you marry me? " Anthony immediately got down on one knee but not for long because I started sobbing and felt so weak in the knees that I told him I was going to fall over. So, he jumped up, hugged and kissed me. Of course I said yes! Then he put the ring on my finger, and all of our friends and family members took turns coming to congratulate us. There was hardly a dry eye in the house! Anthony had been trying to come up with a way to surprise me for quite some time, and he had turned the tables on me by turning the surprise party I was throwing for him into my own engagement party!
