Neil and I met at a networking event in June of 2007. The event was held at the Rochester Museum and Science Center. We have attended many subsequent networking events at different locations since then. On December 2, 2008, Digital Rochester was holding their annual "Festivus" Holiday event. Incidentally, the event was also being held at the Rochester Museum and Science Center, where we originally met.
This event draws over 400 people. It's the organizations largest event of the year, complete with over 30 prizes donated by major businesses in Rochester. Those prizes are auctioned off in a silent auction. Neil decided to rig the silent auction so that my ticket would get pulled for the jewelry prize. When I turned around after my name was called, he was down on bended knee with the ring in his hand.
I said yes, and the band immediately started playing "Going to the Chapel." He proposed in front of 250 people that were all watching the silent auction! As if that wasn't enough, Neil talked me into going to our favorite restaurant afterward for a drink to celebrate. When I walked in, many of my closest friends, my parents, my sister and Neil's parents were all there to celebrate with us. He threw me an instant engagement party the night he proposed. It was all a wonderful memory, the ring is beautiful and it is a night that I will never forget!
