My fiancé and I had been together for over three years. When we first started dating, we used to go walking every night at a little park downtown. We would play on the swings, walk by the lake and just hang out and get to know each other. We moved in together about two years after we started dating. Once we decided to save up money, the nightly drives to the park stopped, and we kind of just did things around the house. I had recently gotten a job where he works, and we had to do the sensible thing and carpool. It was my week to drive, but he had driven to work in my car that day. I immediately knew something was up because he never drives my car and never wants to.
After work, he took me out to eat sushi, my favorite meal. After our lovely dinner, I realized that we weren't headed towards home; we were headed in the direction of the park that we hadn't been to in almost a year. We walked by the lake, went on the swings for a bit and then walked back down to sit by the lake. We sat and talked like we always used to do. The lake was gorgeous; it was nighttime so the lights of the city reflected off of it perfectly. A bird flew by, and I turned my head away from him to watch it. As I turned my head back, I noticed he had something in his hand. I looked down and saw the most beautiful ring I had ever seen in my life. He looked so nervous and said in a sheepish voice, "So…um… Will you marry me? " I was in shock because it was the sweetest thing ever, and he was so cute. I couldn't even say yes, so I just squealed and hummed an "mhm. " I was so happy, I cried. We stopped by his mother's house and my mother's house and returned home to drink a nice bottle of champagne and cuddle on the couch. It was the best night of my life thus far. Even with all its simplicity, I will never forget it.
