On December 23rd of this year, after dating for six wonderful months, my boyfriend, Dan, and I were on our way back from a trip from East Texas visiting my grandparents. On the long trip home, Dan had suggested that we go into Highland Park to look at Christmas lights that night. I told him that I would love to, but it would depend on what time we arrived back in Dallas. After getting back that evening around six, I still had to make a couple of pies and wrap presents for our trip to my parents the next day at 1 pm. I was exhausted already and not looking forward to the chores ahead.
Dan made the suggestion again to look at lights. I told him, "Can we please do this tomorrow night after we get to Mom and Dad's house? I'm so tired and I really need to get this stuff done." Him being the sweet man that he is, he said to me, "Babe, December 24th will be filled with family things forever, December 25th will be family too; can't we just start a tradition that is just ours?" What girl could say no to that? After getting coffee and looking at the lights in Highland Park, we went to a park with huge granite teddy bear statues, one of our favorite places. Here, he pulled out the ring, I started to cry, so many kind words were exchanged, more crying, and he asked me the wonderful question, "Will you marry me?" Of course I said, "Yes!" I can't wait to become Mrs. Jackson and spend the rest of my life with my best friend and the man that makes be a better person.
