Auriella D.

July 3rd is my birthday, so my fiancé and I decided to visit my dad in San Diego. I had a small idea that I might be getting proposed to, but my birthday came and went with no ring. In fact, I didn't even get any presents because my fiancé accidentally bought the wrong thing. I was devastated to say the least.

The next day we went down to watch the fireworks in Mission Bay so that we would be able to see all of the firework shows in San Diego at the same time. We spent the day at the beach just relaxing and hanging out with my family. As soon as it got dark and we knew the fireworks were going to start, my boyfriend asked me where I wanted to stand to watch the fireworks, so we went and stood a little bit away from my family as the fireworks started all around us. With three different firework shows going off, my boyfriend told me how much he loved - over and over again to the point that I almost got tired of him saying it. Then he told me and how much he wanted to grow old with me and spend the rest of his life with me. Then he got down on one knee and proposed in front of my entire family. Even though everyone was standing behind us and watching us, I felt like we were the only people there for the rest of the firework show, like they were all just for us. I kept staring at my ring and saying, "oh my goodness," over and over again. Of course I said, "Yes!"

When we finally turned around to tell my parents, I noticed they had covered the picnic table with champagne glasses and decorations. They all knew what was going to happen and kept it a secret from me. We toasted to our engagement and I still can't believe how much he went through to give me the best proposal I could have ever asked for. It turned out that he bought my ring a month before, right after I found out that I got a promotion at work and he asked my dad's permission to marry me. My dad happened to be at work when he asked and told me later that he was crying at work, so touched by my fiancé asking for my hand. Now we have to have fireworks for our wedding, so we're going to be married on December 31, 2009.
