One day in January, my boyfriend David came down to Georgia for a visit. I arrived home from work, and he wanted to go out and run some errands. I went with him, and we first stopped by the Apple Store to repair his IPod. While we were waiting, Beyonce's "Single Ladies " music video played on a screen. I started joking with him, and we cracked up in the store. Little did I know what was about to happen. When we left, I rounded the corner, and there was a window display with Vera Wang wedding dresses. I again started laughing because the idea of marriage was like a faraway dream; I knew it would happen eventually, but I never thought it would be now. Well, he started cracking jokes again, saying that it was crazy that we had kept seeing this wedding stuff, hinting that it must be some type of sign that the powers from above were trying to say something.
As we continued our walk, there was a sign that said, "What would you say? " The night was getting weirder and weirder. He laughed and said, "Wow, what would you say? " Still joking and laughing, we decided to go ice skating in Rockefeller Center. I opted against it because I was cold, but as we continued walking, we came upon Central Park. He asked if I wanted a horse carriage ride, and I of course said yes. Who wouldn't want to go on a horse carriage ride in Central Park? It was absolutely wonderful, and we talked, cuddled and kissed.
After our ride, I started getting tired because I knew I had to work the next morning. I told him that we should start heading home, but he said that he wanted to walk for a few minutes so we walked in Central Park. At one point, I got tired and sat down on a bench. In that one moment, he got down on his knees and asked me to be his wife! The signs were all there, and God was letting me know it was time. I was overwhelmed, overjoyed and blissfully ignorant. I hadn't realized how nervous he was. No wonder he had cracked so many jokes. He was actually worried that I would say no, but who could say no to the man of their dreams?
