The moment we both laid eyes on each other, we knew our lives would never be the same. John spent his childhood in Orlando but had moved away for more than ten years before he decided to go back to help his father run for Congress. I knew this was the man of my dreams, so I packed up my life in San Diego and headed to Orlando with him, no proposals in sight (everyone thought I was crazy). Being away from my family and friends in California was very hard at times, but I took the chance that John and I would have a future together. Needless to say, his family welcomed me with open arms and really made me feel at home.
It happened that he had scheduled an insurance exam the Saturday night before I was to leave for California. All day I was waiting to hear from him to see if he had good news about passing. At 6pm, I got the call that he had passed and wanted to go to dinner to celebrate. I was excited for him and threw on jeans and a t-shirt, thinking we would go to his favorite local pizza joint. I was wrong. The restaurant we went to had white tablecloth and candles. Needless to say, I felt very underdressed.
As we walked to our private booth, I tried the best I could to hide my jeans behind my purse. As soon as we sat down, I was greeted with a bouquet of red roses. I thought to myself, "They must do this for everyone. " As soon as John turned to me and went reaching for his pocket, I knew he would propose. I was so shocked and happily surprised; it was the most memorable night of my life.
