My fiancé and I go on a big trip every year. In December 2008 we went to Peru. We hiked the Inca Trail that leads to Machu Picchu. It's a four day trek, 26 miles, up and down the Andes Mountains. It's no walk in the park, more like the clouds! We both suffered from altitude sickness on and off the whole trek.
After four days of getting up at the crack of dawn we finally arrive at the Sun Gate at Machu Picchu! It's a truly magical place! We went during the rainy season but we had the most PERFECT weather! Our guide said the weather was extremely unusual for that time of year. We spent most of the day doing a tour amongst the ruins. Given that I haven't had a shower in four days, I was beat and ready to finally call it a day. However, my fiancée wanted to hike back up to the sun dial one more time. I refused! I was completely tired and just want to shower!
He is the calmest person ever but he started getting upset! I couldn't figure it out but if it meant that much to him I guess I would hike up the 300 steps again! Boy am I glad that I did! When we got to the top, completely drenched in sweat, he got down on one knee. He said, "If we can make it through this, we can make it through anything. Will you please make me the happiest man and be my wife?" My heart melted and I fell in love with him all over again!
