Out of the kindness and generosity of his heart, my fiancé, Eric, decided to treat both of us to an eight day vacation to Alaska during the second week of June 2008. We flew into Anchorage, and on the second day of our trip we drove our rental car to Denali National Park, which was also where Eric's brother Dave was working for the summer months.
Upon arriving in Denali, we went straight to visit Dave at work. Shortly after arriving, Eric arranged a helicopter ride out to a nearby glacier for us! It was simply amazing. Neither Eric nor I had ever seen a glacier before, let alone fly there via helicopter, so the entire experience was completely surreal. After landing on the glacier and being let out of the helicopter, Eric took my hand and motioned that we should take a walk over to the left of the glacier. Unbeknownst to me of what was about to happen, I was a little surprised that Eric seemed so quick to "ditch" Dave as we started exploring the glacier. This was our first time seeing Dave in months! In my head, I was thinking that Eric was acting a little rude!
I've learned, however, some things are better left unsaid and continued to walk with Eric as Dave was unloading some random stuff from the helicopter. As we walked further way, Eric got down on bended knee and proposed! I, of course, quickly responded with, "Yes!" Interestingly enough, I didn't see the proposal coming at all.
After putting the ring on, we went back to rejoin the others that were on the helicopter ride with us. As we were about to walk back, we heard the "pop" of a cork from a bottle of champagne that Dave had stowed away for us. We toasted, took pictures, and had a fantastic time. Our proposal story will forever be a story I love telling!
