My fiancé Derrick took me out for my birthday to the restaurant where we had gone on our first date. Unbeknownst to me, he had gone to the restaurant earlier that day to fill in the entire staff of his intention to propose and to give the maitre d all of the gifts wrapped individually. We arrived and sat down while the maitre d took our order and then brought over the first gift. I was so surprised! I opened the gift and then I opened another one ten minutes later and then another and so on. None of the gifts, however, was an engagement ring.
Then, the waiters brought over a cake Derrick had ordered from a local bakery that read, "Will you marry me? " in icing on it. He got down on one knee and opened the ring box. I was so excited that I said yes and just grabbed the ring without waiting for him to put it on my finger. There was just one other older couple seated behind us who congratulated us. The staff was happy for us. It was the best birthday ever and one of the most special moments in our lives so far.
