My fiancé and I met when I moved to Ireland on a four month work permit after I graduated from college in January 2005. He was from Ireland and we met the first week that I moved there. We became interested in each other very quickly.
After the four months were over in May, I had to go back home to California and the thought of being apart was so unbearable that we decided that he was going to move to America to be with me. After two months apart, he packed up his life in Ireland and arrived in California on July 5, 2005. Three years later, we decided to spend the 4th of July in Disneyland. Disneyland has the best fireworks! Plus, he had never been there, so it was a great chance to spend some time there. On morning of the 4th of July we got up really early so we could spend the whole day in the park. I should have known something was going on when we got into the park and he realized that he had lost his ticket! I am usually the scatterbrained one, so for him this was very unusual. Turns out his nerves had started to take over because of what he was planning for that night. After we dealt with that situation, the rest of the day went very smoothly with him being incredibly sweet, paying for everything, and constantly telling me how much he loved me.
We had dinner at the Blue Bayou Restaurant along the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. It was lovely and romantic. It was already the perfect day, but little did I know it was going to get better. As the sun began to set and the park really started to fill up with people there to watch the fireworks. He insisted that we find somewhere to sit to watch the show, so we decided on a spot near "It's a Small World." We sat down on a couple of steps and waited.
As the fireworks began, he sort of rolled onto his knee and said, "Amy I love you very much and I want to spend the rest of my life with you, Will You Marry Me?" I just looked at him in shock, started to laugh a little, and gave him a big kiss! He said, "Is that a yes?" I anxiously responded, "Oh! Yes of course!"
Since it was dark, other than the light from the amazing fireworks, I couldn't really see the ring but I thought it was the second one that we had picked out because the first one was discontinued. When I finally caught a good glimpse of it, I saw that it was the original discontinued ring we had chosen months before! He had bought it four months earlier and had been hiding it in his car that whole time! I was absolutely floored at this sweet surprise and unbelievably happy. So there we were, almost exactly three years to the day after his trip across the world to be with me, ready to begin our journey together as husband and wife. Disneyland really is the "Happiest Place on Earth!"
