On Thursday, June 26th, I flew out to California to visit my boyfriend Danny for the weekend. When he picked me up from the airport, he asked what I wanted to do for the evening. I didn't care. All I cared about was that I was with him after our long separation. He told me that we could go over to his parents' house and hang out with his family, we could go out to eat at our favorite place or we could drive down to Newport Beach and grab dinner there.
We decided to drive down to Newport Beach, where we fell in love 3 years before. When we were getting close, Danny asked if I would rather get dinner first or go down by the water. I decided that we should go down to the water since it was still sunny out. We took our shoes off and walked along the beach. It was such a fun time, the weather was perfect, and I was excited to be with Danny. I told him that we needed to look for sand dollars while we were walking. I remembered a time that Danny and I had come to Newport a couple summers ago. During this trip, we found dozens and dozens of sand dollars, which is really rare. Normally, you'll take a mile walk and maybe find one broken sand dollar if you're lucky!
I said to Danny, "Remember when we found all those sand dollars that one time?" We kept walking for a little while, but then Danny said we should turn around and go eat. It was getting colder and darker. We turned around and as we started walking, I saw a sand dollar. I said, "Oh my gosh! There's a sand dollar!!!" What are the chances? I got a little closer and realized it had writing on it. I was thinking to myself, "Bummer, I find one sand dollar and it has writing on it." But as I went to pick it up, I saw that it said "Will you marry me?" on it.
I couldn't believe it. I didn't know why it was there or who it was for or what was going on. The next thing I knew, Danny was down on his knee, and I started crying. He proposed and gave me the most gorgeous ring. It was such a perfect engagement and a perfect night! I'm the happiest girl in the world. I can't wait to marry this sweet guy!
