Amanda A.

Eric and I have been dating for almost four years now. We started dating when I was a senior in high school, and now I am about to graduate college this May. We always wanted to wait to get married until we were both done with school, and since my graduation is coming up so did the big question about marriage. Eric has always told me that he wanted to wait to propose until after I graduated because I had always told him I didn't want a super long engagement. Last Christmas Eve, my family invited Eric over to open presents. When it was my turn to open my gifts from him, he had a stack of note cards and a bag full of gifts, but he said that there was a catch. I had to do certain things to get certain gifts.

He handed me the first note card and it said, "To get your first gift, you must do your best dance move." So I had to do my best dance move in front of my family. I then opened my first gift, which was a CD I had wanted for a while. Then the next note card said, "In order to get your next gift, go around the room and hug everyone and tell them I love them." So I did that, and then I got a pair of cute pajamas. Then he had two sets of note cards, one set had dates on them and one set had pictures on them. The pictures corresponded to the dates of our first kiss, first date, my high school prom and some other important dates in our relationship. I matched all of the dates, and he handed me my third gift.

A few years ago I used to collect Jones Soda bottles, and my mom had recently found one that had a picture of a beach on the label and it said "Marry Me?" in the sand. She gave Eric the bottle, and he had saved it for the past couple years. When he handed my my third gift and I opened it, I was amazed to see the bottle and read the words "Marry Me?" I looked up and he was down on one knee with a beautiful diamond ring. For a few seconds all I could say was, "Oh my gosh!" over and over again through my tears, but then, finally, I said, "YES!"
