It was the day before Christmas Eve, and my fiancé and I were at the mall doing some last minute shopping. While dashing through a bookstore, I saw the collector's edition of Brides magazine. I stopped and told Richard, my fiancé, "Oh, I would love to have that! It's the best edition of the year!" He replied with, "We don't have time now; we'll come back later and get it." So, sadly I ran along.
Well, the next morning was Christmas Eve 2008. Richard joined me at my parent's house for our annual family Christmas dinner. We opened all the gifts and were finishing up, when Richard stopped and said, "Wait I have one more for Alyssa." So unexpectedly, and kind of confused, I took the neatly wrapped box in my hands. I unwrapped it, and there laid the Brides magazine that I had wanted so badly. I was thrilled from the second that I saw it! I told Richard, "Oh you're the best! Thank you so much!" He then said, "Look on this page, I found a dress that I really liked on there." Shocked, I looked at him and said, "You're crazy to actually take the time to look through it and pick out my dress!"
Well, as soon as I turned the page, he had my engagement ring tied to a beautiful piece of chiffon ribbon. I looked down, then looked at him and said, "Are you serious?" Then I lost it and started bawling. I was so overwhelmed because I'm the kind of person who expects everything. He was always scared he would never be able to propose to me because of the fear that I would expect it.
He looked at me and said, "Well, did you expect it?" I just started crying more and said, "No baby. I didn't. You completely surprised me." Just then my mom said, "Well, Rich you never asked her." He said, "Through all the excitement I forgot," he paused and said, "Will you marry me?" I looked at him and said, "of course I will." We have been happily engaged ever since. Needless to say, that was the best Christmas ever.
