One Christmas, my parents bought my boyfriend and I plane tickets to fly to MA to spend all of Christmas week with them. After being away from my family for so long, going home was one of the most amazing feelings ever. On Christmas Eve, my boyfriend Ryan handed me my Christmas card. He walked down the hall after that. I had assumed he just grabbed a drink, but little did I know that he had gone upstairs to our guest room. I opened the card and read the most sweet and loving message I had ever seen. Tears filled my eyes as I read through lines describing how perfect we were for each other, and how even though we were struggling financially, our love was all that we would need. On the inside of the card, he had written about how I was perfect for him in every way and how there was no one else on earth he would ever want to spend his life with. He then made a note for me to come upstairs because he had something for me. I reluctantly walked down the hall and up the stairs, noticing that the lights were off in our room.
As I opened the door, candles lit the way to rose petals on the dressers, night stands and bed, where he was standing. After I closed the door, he took my hands and looked me in the eyes, telling me how beautiful I was and how much he loved me. With shaking hands and eyes filling with tears, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a black box, opened it and asked me if I would marry him. Before the box was even fully opened, I leaped into his arms and whispered, "Of course I will marry you." After a few moments of tears and overwhelming excitement, I finally looked at my ring! Nothing could ever have been more beautiful or perfect. He took out the ring and placed it on my finger, and it had the perfect fit and feeling. It was something I never could have imagined. Then, we ran downstairs to share our excitement with family and friends. It was incredible that we had our family there but that the proposal was still private. It was the most amazing day of my life. I later found out that he had bought the ring before he had been laid off from work, and it had been taped to the back of our refrigerator for months for safekeeping and hiding! He wanted to wait for what I would consider the perfect moment: being back home with my family and friends on my favorite day of the year. To top it all off, it was a white Christmas.
