Weddings offer ample opportunities to apply your handwriting skills. Many couples choose to use custom self-inking stamps or custom labels for return addresses. These look great and can save your best writing efforts for applying guest’s names and addresses. However you choose to address your invitations and thank you cards, keep these general rules of etiquette in mind.
Generally speaking, the outer envelope should be formal and contain full names and titles. There are varying rules for addressing envelopes to different types of couples and having a template on hand while you are writing addresses is a helpful reminder. For married couples, be sure to use Mr. and Mrs. in advance of their names. If one is a doctor, list their name first, preceded by their title. If both are doctors, you can apply the title before each name or simply preface their shared last name with, “The Doctors.”
Couples who live together but are unmarried should have both of their full names listed, preceded by the appropriate title, either “Mr.” or “Ms.” It is always acceptable to refer to a divorced woman as “Ms.,” followed by whichever last name she generally uses, either maiden or that of her former spouse.
The inner envelope can be more informal, listing only first names if that is your preference. For those wanting a more ceremonial look, titles and last names may be used here. Be sure to list the name of each member of the household you are inviting, including children.
Children living at home should be listed only on the inner envelope by first name. Be sure to send a separate invite to those 18 or older living away from home. If your wedding will be an adults-only affair, you can gently mention so on your website or to family and friends who can help spread the word.
"This stamp is awesome! I bought one for my wedding. Used it on 70 Save the Dates, 70 invitations, and 70 Thank you cards! Had to switch the ink pad around after all that, and it's dark again! I lived it so much, I bought one as a gift for my aunt! She loves it!!"
"This stamper works really well. I thought it was a little expensive for a stamper when I was buying it but it's better quality than I thought and doesn't seem like I'll have any misstamps."
"We ordered the personalized rubber stamp to use as a return address on our RSVP postcards. It was a huge time saver and a very high quality stamp. It's self inking too--even more efficient!"
"This shipped so fast! It has a very clean print when it stamps. It's nice and simple and a super unique way to start using your new last name ;)"
"I ordered this item on on a Monday and received it on a Wednesday. It is a self-inking custom rubber stamp, and it is beautiful! I am so impressed!"
