Staging the Perfect Rehearsal Dinner

The rehearsal dinner is traditionally the official start of the wedding festivities. The point of the dinner is to give the bride and groom time to spend with those they love. People will travel in from all over to be there for the big day, but the couple is typically occupied during the wedding. The rehearsal dinner is a more casual approach to spending time together. Because this event is so important, planning every detail is essential.

Simple Steps

Your rehearsal dinner can be as big or as small as you want it to be, casual or formal, a low-key get together or a full blown event. Follow these simple tips to make sure it goes off without a hitch.

  • Determine who’s paying. Traditionally, the groom’s parents hosted the wedding dinner as the bride’s family paid for the wedding, but in today’s world, it’s up for grabs. If both of your parents are paying for the wedding, the happy couple might want to offer to pay for the dinner.
  • Choose a Theme. Incorporate your wedding theme into your rehearsal dinner as a fun way to kick off the festivities. You may choose to center your dinner around a cultural background, the wedding’s location, or a first date celebration.
  • Pick the Spot. Your party will have a different feel if you host it in a unique location such as a local park, beer garden or bowling alley.
  • The Guest List. Invite anyone participating in the wedding party plus close family members. Remember on their party invite to include an invitation for a date or spouse.
  • Prepare Your Gifts. If you want to give gifts to the wedding party, the rehearsal dinner is the right time to do it.
  • Plan a Toast. The rehearsal dinner is the time for the members of the wedding party to get up and say a few words about the happy couple.
  • Pass Out Reminders. This is also a great time to remind the wedding party of important pieces of the wedding day. Pass out reminder cards about where they should be and when they should be there.

From vintage rehearsal dinner invitations to casual get-togethers at a park or restaurant, there is no wrong way to go about planning a rehearsal dinner as long as the couple is happy.

Customer reviews of our Rehearsal Dinner Invitations

June 9, 2015Perfection!

"Loved this card - and i loved that it was a post card for our rehearsal dinner. I changed the font colors and boarder to pink with a white card background and it's just perfect! Thank you. Turn around was quick and efficient and the changes I needed made before printing were changed quickly and accurately."

September 18, 2014Perfect Rehearsal Invites!

"I thought these would be so cute for our upcoming wedding rehearsal in Nashville, and I am so happy that I ordered them! I customized the colors to a light pink and charcoal gray, and I was absolutely thrilled with the final product! I couldn't wait to mail these out, and I was so pleased to hear that so many of our guests loved receiving them too!"

July 3, 2013Wonderful Postcards

"I really loved this product. The quality of the paper and printing is great, and I received my order very quickly! I would definitely recommend this for your rehearsal dinner invites."

June 21, 2012Beautiful and Practical

"We used this card for our rehearsal dinner and to give guests all the information they need about the rehearsal before. I absolutely loved the idea of a postcard so we were able to provide dinner details on one side and ceremony rehearsal details on the other side. The paper quality was fantastic and the print quality was good. My only concern was that the large script where it states Practice was not as sharp as I thought it should have been, but it would not be enough of a reason to keep me from re-ordering the product or to keep me from recommending to someone else. As always customer service was fabulous! I even had a little glitch with shipping due to the labor day holiday and customer service refunded the shipping charge immediately, although I didn't expect or ask for that. Truly a great product from an excellent company."

May 21, 2012Just what I wanted

"I liked the postcard idea. All of the information was covered with one item. The card could be used for both the wedding party members and those guests that were invited to the rehearsal dinner and not part of the rehearsal. Concise and compact....that's what we needed to convey a more relaxed event hosted by the groom's family."
